Been away....

Sorry about the lack of posts the past couple of days. I have been away at Ballarat being a tourist. Ballarat is about an hours drive from Melbourne and is one of the core sites of the Victorian gold rush in the 1850s.
We spent yesterday at Sovereign Hill which is an "open air" gold rush museum. It is on the site of an old gold mine and you can do tours of mines, and tours of various shops and manufacturers to see how things were made 150 years ago. I love this sort of stuff - I find the old machinery and methods fascinating. You can't buy any "modern" food or drink - you can buy a limited amount of "cool aerated beverages" - from memory the only flavours available were creamy soda, sarsaparilla, cola and lemon. And they have lovely food and sweets made in traditional ways. There are employees and volunteers in period costume wandering around which was slightly surreal.
My camera was playing up (that's my excuse, and I am sticking to it) so I didn't get many good pics, but you can check out Sascha's pics, which are lovely.
