Australian Politics

After a Cabinet room coup, Australia today has it's first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.  Kevin Rudd, who was hugely popular until only a few months ago, and had not finished his first term in office, stood aside for his deputy after she challenged for the leadership this morning.  Kevin had tried to change too much too quickly, and essentially shot himself in the foot.  Hopefully Julia will learn from this, because I quite like her.  Even if she is a ginge.  :)

As a side note, I thought one little fact was interesting from the Cabinet room vote - Julia used to date fellow MP Craig Emerson, but they broke up a few years ago.  Mr Emerson voted for Mr Rudd to stay as leader - messy break-up maybe?
