Why curbside?!?! Am I missing something?

Yeah, you are missing something. To physicians, a "consultation" is a conversation between colleagues, about some clinical matter. "Curbside" indicates that the consultations reviewed in the book are brief enough that they could happen on the fly. Try to imagine two doctors chatting while they wait for a bus. I know that's hard to imagine, but I'm just saying.

One of the sections in this book is "Colon Potpurri". Now, that conjures up a very disturbing image.

Finally, I can't help but point out that this book's title won the second-place award for "Best American Titles of Books Published in 2008", in the book "The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2009" edited by Dave Eggers.
