District 9

I saw this Friday night. Shot like a documentary, on hand held cameras, it is set in South Africa and essentially a movie about Apartheid, only involving humans versus aliens rather than whites versus blacks. I enjoyed it but I found it very intense. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to be persecuted, this movie gives you an excellent insight - a couple of scenes made me feel physically ill - not from gore, but from the way the aliens were being treated.
Go and see it.

I saw it...not impressed at all. The story was lacking. It entertained me, but I wouldn't ever watch it again.

I disagree with "Anonymous"!

2009 gave us two actual, realio trulio science fiction movies. "Moon" and "District 9".

Not pulp age space opera polished up for the 21st century, but science fiction. As much as I enjoy a rootin' tootin' laser shootin' spectacle, these were a refreshing and rare treat.
